Bushfire Prayers
Prayer in time of bushfire
All things look to you, O Lord,
to give them their flood in due season:
look in mercy on your people,
and hear our prayer for those whose live and possessions
have been destroyed by fire.
In your mercy restore your creation and heal our land.
So guide and bless your people
that we may enjoy the fruits of the earth
and give you thanks with grateful hearts,
through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

A Prayer for our Nation facing the Bushfire Crisis
Almighty God and heavenly Father, we pray for this world that you love so much
that you sent your Son Jesus to be born as the child of Bethlehem:
We pray for the safety of those sheltering from fires and those fighting fires,
for livestock, native animals, paddocks, bushlands and sacred places.
We remember our own loved ones and those who are dear to us facing this crisis.
We pray for those tending to the injured, the frightened and the broken-hearted,
for emergency services, emergency broadcasters, chaplains and counsellors.
We ask for your forgiveness for our own failures in safeguarding your good creation,
and pray for political and community leaders, and all those responding
to the current crisis in our nation.
Above all, we pray the peace that passes all understanding,
in our nation and state, in our homes and in our hearts.
This we ask in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
– A Prayer by Dean Andreas Loewe used at St Paul’s Cathedral Melbourne
A Prayer for Emergency Workers and Communities
affected by bushfires
We thank you, living God,
for the fire fighters and emergency service workers,
both volunteers and professionals,
who risk their own safety to protect people and property.
Bless and protect them as they serve us in times of crisis.
Give them skill and care
as they work through fatigue, fear and danger.
To every community now shadowed by the smoke of bushfires,
give a strong spirit, generous neighbours,
and the resources they need
to care for one another and for the land.
Refresh us in our faith
that nothing can separate us from your love
in Christ Jesus our Lord,
in whose name we pray. Amen.
– A Prayer by the Reverend Dr Elizabeth J. Smith, Mission Priest, The Goldfields, Anglican Diocese of Perth
A Prayer for Relief
Almighty God and heavenly Father,
by your living Word you called forth our world
and made it to be very good,
look with mercy on our land and bring us relief:
In our draught, send us rain,
in our despair, give us hope,
in our exhaustion, give us strength,
in our hesitation, give us resolve,
in our spiritual poverty, fill us with your grace,
for the sake your Word made flesh,
Jesus Christ, our Lord.. Amen.

A Prayer for Forgiveness and Positive Action
Heavenly Father,
you sent your Son into the world to save sinners,
in the midst of this climate crisis
turn our hearts to you again
and enable us to hear your call:
Rouse the careless, raise up the despairing,
strengthen all who work to protect our environment,
inspire the ingenious to find technical solutions to this crisis,
and foster among those in authority a firm resolve and will
to bring in urgent, effective measures to save our planet.
Gracious Father, now send forth your Spirit,
to renew the face of the earth,
for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer for those who have died
Lord of life and conqueror of death,
we commit into your hands the soul[s] of [Names/those/the emergency workers and fire fighters] who [has/have] perished in the bushfires in our nation, we give thanks for [her/his life, their lives, their courage, commitment and service to others].
We now hold before you those who loved [her/him/them], cared for [her/him/them], and worked with [her/him/them], [her/his/their] loved-ones, families, friends, [her/his/their] colleagues and mates.
Come close to those who mourn [her/him/them], Lord Jesus Christ:
in the darkness of these days be for them a bright light,
in their grieving be for them a strong comfort,
in their mourning be for them a sure and certain hope
that death has been defeated and life is made eternal.
For you gift life even where lives are cut short and taken,
and you are alive and reign, with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
